ok so i have been in the process of moving, spending lots of money that i don't have and haggling with major appliances and utility companies. didn't have time to read this book. in fact, i never have time to read this book. i think that i will ever find the time to read it in my lifetime. just wasn't interested in it. so, ladies, tell me about it and then maybe i will change my mind. ps- i always imagined some kids in a field full of ryes(black, marble, russian etc.) just jumping from rye to rye having a great time with bread. lucky kids.

The name always confused me, too. I still don't know what it means.
I read it, it's not anything what I thought it would be but it was worth a 4 day read...at least for me.
The name, he miss remembers the lyrics to a song he used to sing. Basically he wants to be the guy that catches the kids and protects them from growing up and adulthood.
